About Lois Woolley

Lois Woolley is a painter whose specialty is portraiture. Her love for painting portraits stems from an abiding interest in people: "People seem to me the ultimate subject matter - there is nothing so fascinating, beautiful and universally relevant as an individual person."
A native of Washington, D.C., she grew up in a family where creative and intellectual pursuits were encouraged. Her professional training commenced at age 17 at the Corcoran School of Art, and continued in New York City at the Art Students League. She has exhibited widely, receiving awards and honors in national shows, including the attainment of Fellowship status in the American Artists Professional League.
Her paintings are in collections throughout the United States and abroad.
