About Koki Doktori

Koki Doktori's journey among changing cultures and social contexts  - as a child from Iraq to Tel Aviv and as an adult from Tel Aviv to New York in the '70's  - have influenced his life experience: being uprooted, settling in, experiencing alienation, separation, encounters, confrontation and adaptation.

In America he has made his home in the heart of the Soho District of New York for over thirty years where he had been exposed to the avantgarde of the New York School with its individualistic-sensuous virtuosity. Traces of this late modernism became embedded in Doktori's work. An expressionist painter whose majority of work is abstract, his canvases in oil are guided by the same dichotomies as the works on paper. Working in a variety of mediums, colorful shades interact with sculptural forms to deliver tension and resolution.

Doctori's work is held in private collections as well as selected museum collections in the United States such as National Gallery, Jewish Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Guggenheim Museum, and in Israel, Israel Museum, Tel Aviv Museum, Haifa Museum, Museum of Art Ein Harod.
